With its natural warmth, unique grain and qualities of strength and durability, fine wood is the material of choice for luxury and designer furniture. Different types of wood can be used to produce high-end furniture pieces, and each boasts distinctive characteristics. Here are some of the most popular choices:

  • Walnut: a semi-hard wood with a great balance between workability and durability. Its rich and varied colour can range from light to dark brown. This is another reason why walnut is widely used for luxury and design furniture.
  • Oak: a heavy, durable wood with good workability. It is used for solid furniture or parquet, although it cannot always be treated effectively against insects.
  • Cherry: a hard wood which can be worked easily and used for many types of furniture. It has a warm colour ranging from light red to dark brown, and a smooth surface. It darkens with age and is often used in classic furniture.
  • Chestnut: remarkable durability and resistance to moisture and weathering. Not surprisingly, it is often used for structures in contact with water, such as boats. It tends to be light in colour when young and it grows more reddish with age.
  • Elm: its warm colour makes it very appreciated in furniture as well as in the music sector: it is actually used to make some instruments.
  • Beech: wide range of uses. It can be used to make furniture, stairs, doors and windows. It is a very solid but not very elastic wood, with a colour ranging from blond to reddish.
  • Durmast: very hard-wearing and durable, and light-coloured with an obvious grain. It has a good resistance to moisture and is used for rustic and modern furniture, flooring and accessories.
  • Ebony: characterised by a very dark, almost black, colour with lighter veins. Extremely dense and heavy. It is used for decorative details and luxury furniture.
  • Mahogany: red-brown in colour with a smooth grain. It is durable and stable, and therefore excellent for finishings. It is mainly used for luxury furniture and carving work.
